Maxillomandibular advancement (MMA) for patients with OSA carries a higher risk of complications compared to orthognathic surgery for adolescent patients with dentofacial deformities. The purpose of this course is to educate clinicians about the peri-operative and intra-operative factors that may increase the risk of complications, discuss the management of complications including persistent OSA, and reveal criteria for ideal patient selection that will lead to success with MMA surgery.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
Explain co-morbid conditions that may lead to unfavorable outcomes after MMA surgery.
Describe approaches to prevent and manage surgical and medical complications associated with MMA surgery.
Determine patient selection criteria that are associated with successful outcomes after MMA surgery.
