Antibiotics are over-prescribed and dental providers (including OMSs) are significantly contributing to this problem. While the aim is evidence-based practices, the guidelines for antibiotic prescribing for the OMS can be unclear and superstitions are often relied on to make these decisions. With antibiotic resistance posing a real threat to practices and community health in the future, everyone can do their part to make better decisions for individual patients and communities by implementing a few simple strategies.
